If I've made any mistakes or over looked something important, let me know.
Reminder that J-Man is running his final spring league week as a Safari at Eureka coming up tomorrow. ---------
Summer League Challenge Series - Sponsored By Innova
Format 1: Standard singles format. Format 2: Challenge nights will allow a modified format for those looking for something different while also allowing others to continue to play the normal singles round. Cost: $1 Ace Pool (optional) $4 Buy In ($3 paid back & $1 to CTP Disc) When: Wednesday Nights 6:00PM 5:45PM Where: Rotating the 3 parks in town. (Maxwell, PJ, Forest) Schedule:
6/9/2010 Maxwell Park (Challenge Night) 6/16/2010 PJ Irvin Park 6/23/2010 Forest Park 6/30/2010 Maxwell Park (Challenge Night) 7/7/2010 PJ Irvin Park (Challenge Night) 7/14/2010 Forest Park 7/21/2010 Maxwell Park (Juggernaut) 7/28/2010 PJ Irvin Park 8/4/2010 Forest Park 8/11/2010 Maxwell Park 8/18/2010 PJ Irvin Park 8/25/2010 Forest Park
Your division will be determined by past league play or observed and noted historical play. The league director reserves the right to have you play up a division based on performance, but will ask you each night your intended division.
Pay Structure: Open: Pays 1 on a card of 2, 3, or 4. Slight mod for 5 players in open. ($6, $9, $12, $12/$3) Advanced: Pays 1 on a card of 2 or 3 & 2 on a card of 4. ($6, $9, $9/$3) Intermediate: Pays 1 on a card of 2 or 3 & 2 on a card of 4. ($6, $9, $6/$6)
Challenge Nights: On occasion I have scheduled custom nights to be played. They would be mostly optional and could include players from any division. 1. Long Grass or special O.B. nights. 2. Mando night. (A selection of mandatory lines depending on course.) 3. Heads up challenge night match play. An opportunity to call someone out that you would love to play heads up for bragging rights. (Within reason of course.) 4. Stacked odds. Open player plays against a card of 3. They play triples best shot, while he/she plays straight singles. (Optional for all with Open player volunteering for the challenge first.) 5. Single disc or limited disc challenge card.
On surprise nights or odd play events the disc CTP will be on a 19th hole with no restrictions.
Juggernaut: This will be the longest and toughest format ever played at Maxwell. This will not be required for everyone and those playing will be in a single division. Prizing will be cash from buy-in, plus a selection of prizes to be announced for all manner of things, including worse score on a single hole, etc
Example: Hole 1 might be from near bridge across street from 18, mando cross the street on first throw, long grass and road O.B. from bridge on 1 to long pin of #1.

Thank you for reminding everyone of tomorrows safari round. I'm going out to measure, check the flow of the course and make final adjustments for tomorrow at Eureka.
I'm very excited for summer league, although in a way I will miss running league. I am looking forward to your league with the challenge nights & especially the Juggernaut Course, otherwise known as Cain Marko Course :)

I would love to attend league nights... but as you know... I usually have to show up late even when they start at 6 due to my job. 5:45 will make it even more rare for me to show up. It is pretty unfortunate that we are starting earlier than half of the spring league starts when we have the longest days of the year ahead of us.

In my case, I get done with work at 3:15PM. It's already pushing my desire to run the league at all later in the evening. I actually wanted to run the league at 4:30, but didn't think anyone would come at all.
The option is on the table and I'm 100% serious. If someone wants to run this league and move the start time out to 6:00 or later, be my guest. I'm only running the league to guarentee we have one at this point.
Maybe a joint league with flexible start? 4:15 & 6:15 start times? I TD the first half and Noah TD's the second half?

Flex start, intersting idea. Would we be able to pull this off? Sounds good to me. I am off at 4:00 but I could probably flex my time on Wednesday and come in a little earlier. I would be up for a 4:15 start time.

4:15 would be a bad idea i think i mean how many pple do u know would be able to make it at that time...if anything i think it would better if it was around the time that is already set 5:45 or later like 6:30

I'd personally come to the 4.15 over the 6.15 But...I'll be in Joliet all Summer (and probably fall) so it'll be more rare for me to actually show :(

The following quotes may be helpful in working through this:
"Half of the people can be part right all of the time. Some of the people can be all right part of the time. But all of the people cant be all right all of the time." Bob Dylan
or
"You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time." Abraham Lincoln
Hope this helps

I cant do that because it is hardly ever certain that I will get off of work in time.
I just figured that leagues were scheduled around everybodies convenience. Earlier has rarely been better. We have always started around the 6 o'clock hour in the summer. But whatever. Have fun.

Noah, start a league that plays at 7 over the summer. I'd likely be able to play that every week. Otherwise, quit sulking. meow.

*Takes a deep breath* Ok....
Running a league or helping to run a legue is something I have been interested in for some time. The only thing that is holding me back is my lack of experience. Since ben has already decided a format and payout structure I think this would be a good opportunity to get my feet wet. I would need some help from some people who have ran leagues before for the first couple weeks to get the hang of things but I am 100% confident that this is something that I am capable of. I get off work on wensdays at 2:00 and I dont have a wife and kids waiting on me to come home so my schedule is more flexible than most. I think moving the league to a later time (6:00-6:30) would be a better option than having 2 leagues unless it prevents people from coming. I know I am very new to the scene but I want to do what I can to help. A smooth running league that fits the MOST amount of people's needs/ schedules is what I am after and I am willing to help accomplish that in whatever way possible. Any input / suggestions / comments would be appreciated as this is just a thought at this point.

I think it would be great for Ben and Dan to run a flexible start Wednesday thing where they run the same format etc. We would have to have payouts and CTP's be the next week, but that would be alright, because I think we would get the most people if we had flexible start times. I for one would rather start earlier than later.

Excellent Dan, now that we've effectively goaded you into jump starting league.
We'll need a few things to get you rolling...
1. CTP flags from Dave O. to run the nightly disc CTP. 2. Score cards. These can be printed from the generic ones I posted on the main web site. Or another source if you have one. 3. We'll need the CTP discs. Dan Nagle has them on order so we'll wait to hear from him. Winners may have to wait a week or two. 4. Sign up sheet. (A simple sheet with three sections for names will do just fine. Lower, Middle, Upper with a spot to note ace pool buy in or not.) 5. J-Man will need to bring the cash box and items so we can store the league money and ace pools. ( I have $15 to add from the one I ran two weeks back.) 6. I'm comfortable with time pushing out to 6:00ish for now and we can talk about an additional split league time early in the coming weeks. We should also have a provision for a player to hit both if they want to do so. More competition the better.
Let me know what else you'd like assistance with. I'll of course be in the mix to help and will try to key in on the challenge nights. Speaking of which tomorrow's challenge night for those paying attention...
Challenge: 1 disc round with no 4's and at least 9 deuces. Disc has to be a mid range disc of some sort. Subject to verification.
There will be a bonus prize to the best failed attempt at the challenge. Which will be determined by me and Dan once rounds are complete. I'll be donating the prize. So jump in even if you feel it'll be nearly impossible, you may still get something out of the effort.
